Suunto D4i Novo Dive Computer Review

This suunto dive computer Is a great easy to use piece of scuba equipment. Suunto recently designed the classic D4i dive computer and put out the Sunnto D4i Novo. All the internals remain the same and they added a soft silicone wrist strap and several nice color choices. The result is a sleeker, more modern looking wrist computer that can double as a daily watch. Compact and lightweight, the Suunto D4i also offers versatile functionality. It has four dive modes: Air, Nitrox, Freedive and Gauge. The Suunto D4i Comes with the ability to connect to an optional wireless air transmitter which makes it great for mid level divers who want the ability to expand their gear later on.  The free diving mode stands out and works great for breath hold enthusiasts. It will record your true depth by sampling the current depth 3x a second so you can always have accurate information stored. The Suunto D4i comes with an 80 hour internal dive log that can be easily exported to your PC for digital dive log enthusiasts. Most importantly, the dot matrix display is super easy to read and has a strong backlight that keeps all essential dive information available at a quick glance. This can always be a concern on more compact dive computers, and the Suunto D4i Novo handles this well thankfully.  Current and maximum depth, current time, dive time, decompression time, and temperature are easy to read in both Air and Nitrox modes.

So what do you get with the Suunto Leonardo dive computer?  There are both audio and screen warnings for deep and safety stops and for approaching deco. The ascent-rate indicator uses a stack  You can program Nitrox from 21% to 50%, PO2 from 0.5 to 1.6 bars,  and altitude adjustment. There is also a handy dive planning mode to help with future dives.  The Suunto D4i dive allows you to customize all the alarms such as ascent rate and maximum depth. There is a nice safety stop countdown feature that is always a nice touch to have. The only thing it is missing as a mid level computer would be a digital compass, but the price point puts it right below that category, which is understandable. The Suunto D4i is extremely popular among free divers because of its ease of use and dedicated free diving mode. The comfortable strap makes it a good choice for anyone who enjoys skin diving or uses a shorty wetsuit on a regular basis, we experienced no annoying irritation form the super soft silicone strap and it fit well. The metal buttons and scratch resistant bezel also performed admirably.
